Why Headphones

Me Reinventing headphones, Dec 2006

I'm sure everybody has similar memories. When I was a teenager I used to listen on Saturdays 17.00 hrs to the radio to the Dutch top-40 while trying to record the songs on the Family stereo Cassette Player. This was not simple work: You had to guess when the DJ would start talking at the end of the song and just before mute the recording level. And the same for the intro of the song, guessing when he would stop talking and hit the start-recording button quickly

Of-course my father who had a classical background did not quite appreciate such music at all. And therefore I listened to the radio with headphones. At that time I used Sennheiser HD400. And later during my college years I studied my exams while listening music through headhones on in order to not disturb my neighbours in the house. I even bought a Sennheiser HD424 which was at that time a very good pair of headphones.

Somewhere in November 2006 I was having dinner with a friend and he told me he bought a headphone amplifier.

I've since bought myself a pair of Sennheiser HD650 and a small SET tube headphone amplifier called Little Dot. And recently I finished my first headphone amp, the headline based on a 12AT7 driver stage and parallel 12SN7 output stage.

I decided to dedicate some pages to my headphone "discoveries". Here's the amplifiers pages:
